Description
Our Mucuna Pruriens extract is a Mucuna pruriens extract (20% L-dopa), supplied as a powder. Every batch is tested for 99% purity or better, and it’s sold for laboratory research only.
Mucuna Pruriens extract explained
This is a Mucuna pruriens seed extract standardized to 20% L-dopa. Velvet bean seeds are one of the richest natural sources of L-dopa.
The lower standardization keeps more of the seed’s other compounds.
Mechanism of action
The L-dopa is converted to dopamine in the brain. Mucuna seeds also contain serotonin, nicotine-like compounds and antioxidants that may add to its effects.
Use the 98% product if you need a defined L-dopa amount.
What studies say about Mucuna Pruriens extract
Katzenschlager’s 2004 study in Parkinson’s patients used mucuna seed powder. Shukla and colleagues reported changes in sperm and hormone markers in infertile men.
Whole-seed extracts are studied separately from pure levodopa because of the other compounds.
The primary literature is on PubMed. Here’s a search to start from.
Options and prices
There are 2 ways to buy it, from $20.00 to $35.75:
- Powder, 250g: $20.00
- Powder, 500g: $35.75
Powder suits labs that want to make their own solutions or capsules. Weigh it on a milligram scale.
Using Mucuna Pruriens extract in the lab
Botanical and mushroom research usually starts by checking the extract’s marker compounds, such as polysaccharides, alkaloids or flavonoids, then moves to cell culture or animal models of inflammation, immunity or metabolism.
Extracts vary by source and method, so labs keep to one batch through a study and record the standardization on the label.
Keep a retained sample of the batch you used. If you need to check a result later, you’ll have the same material to test.
