Description
Our Baicalin is a Scutellaria flavone glycoside, supplied as capsules and a powder. It’s tested to 99% purity or higher and sold strictly for lab research.
What is Baicalin?
Baicalin is a flavone glycoside from the root of Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis), a plant used in Chinese medicine.
Gut bacteria convert it to baicalein, its aglycone.
How it acts in research models
Baicalin and baicalein block NF-kB and other inflammatory signals, and baicalein binds the benzodiazepine site of GABA-A receptors. They also inhibit some viral enzymes in lab tests.
Its absorption is low, so baicalein levels matter more than baicalin in most models.
What studies say about Baicalin
Lab and animal research reports anti-inflammatory, antiviral, liver-protective and calming effects. It’s one of the most studied compounds in traditional Chinese herbs.
Human trials are limited.

Powder suits labs that want to make their own solutions or capsules. Weigh it on a milligram scale.
Using Baicalin in the lab
Plant extracts contain many compounds, so a common design compares the whole extract with its main isolated compound to see which effects come from which.
Write the extract ratio or standardization into your methods. It’s the detail reviewers ask about first.
Keep a retained sample of the batch you used. If you need to check a result later, you’ll have the same material to test.

Purity and batch testing
Every batch is tested before it goes on sale. Identity is checked by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC, with a target of 99% or higher.
Each container is labeled with the product, the amount and the batch number. Email us that number and we’ll send the certificate of analysis for your batch.
Keeping it fresh
Keep the container sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Note the batch number and the date you opened it in your lab records.
Handling notes
Wear gloves and eye protection when you open or measure it, and work on a clean surface.
Label everything you prepare, keep it away from food areas, and follow your lab’s rules for disposing of sharps and chemical waste.
What you’ll need
- a milligram scale, since powder has to be weighed
- a suitable solvent if you’re making your own solution, such as DMSO or propylene glycol
