Description
Our Piperine is a black pepper alkaloid, supplied as tablets and a powder. Each batch is checked for 99%+ purity. It’s intended for research use only.
About Piperine
Piperine is the alkaloid that makes black pepper (Piper nigrum) hot. Ours is 98% pure.
It’s best known for raising the absorption of other compounds.
How it acts in research models
Piperine inhibits drug-metabolizing enzymes such as CYP3A4 and glucuronidation, and the efflux pump P-glycoprotein. That keeps other compounds in the body longer.
It also activates TRPV1 and TRPA1, the receptors behind its heat.
Published Piperine research
Shoba and colleagues reported in 1998 that piperine raised curcumin absorption by about 2,000% in people. Other work covers its effects on drug metabolism and fat cells.
It’s sold as BioPerine in many supplements.

Piperine sizes and forms
Choose the option that fits your study:
- Tablets, 25mg per tablet/100ct/2.5g: $12.01
- Powder, 10g: $16.37
- Powder, 20g: $30.60
Each tablet holds the same measured amount, which the size option spells out.
The powder is the bulk form, for labs that weigh their own amounts. Use a milligram scale for accuracy.
How labs use it
Botanical and mushroom research usually starts by checking the extract’s marker compounds, such as polysaccharides, alkaloids or flavonoids, then moves to cell culture or animal models of inflammation, immunity or metabolism.
Extracts vary by source and method, so labs keep to one batch through a study and record the standardization on the label.
Endpoints depend on the plant: immune markers and cytokines for mushroom beta-glucans, glucose and lipids for metabolic botanicals, or behavior tests for calming plants.

Purity and batch testing
We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.
The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.
Storage and shelf life
Store capsules, tablets and powder in a cool, dry place out of direct light, with the lid closed tight. Write the date you opened or mixed it on the label, so anyone else in the lab knows how old it is.
Working with it safely
Handle it the way you’d handle any research chemical: gloves, eye protection and a clean bench. Don’t eat or drink where you work with it.
Keep it out of reach of anyone who isn’t trained, and dispose of used syringes, vials and wipes according to your lab’s waste rules.
Supplies to have on hand
- a milligram scale, since powder has to be weighed
- a suitable solvent if you’re making your own solution, such as DMSO or propylene glycol
Other compounds to look at
- Mucuna Pruriens Extract 20% L-Dopa: This is a Mucuna pruriens seed extract standardized to 20% L-dopa.
- Icariin 98% (Horny Goat Weed Extract): Icariin is the main flavonoid in Epimedium, a plant called horny goat weed.
- Salidroside Powder: Salidroside is a phenylethanoid glycoside and one of the main active compounds in Rhodiola rosea, an adaptogen from Arctic and mountain regions.
- Oroxylin A: Oroxylin A is a flavone from Scutellaria baicalensis root and Oroxylum indicum bark.
- Maitake Extract 30% Polysaccharides: Maitake is Grifola frondosa, a mushroom that grows in clusters at the base of oak trees, also called hen of the woods.
