Description
Our Agaricus Bisporus is a button mushroom extract (polysaccharides), supplied for lab research. It’s tested to 99% purity or higher and sold strictly for lab research.
What is Agaricus Bisporus?
Agaricus bisporus is the common button mushroom, the same species as cremini and portobello. Our extract is standardized to 30% polysaccharides.
It’s a source of beta-glucans and ergothioneine.
Mechanism of action
The beta-glucans bind Dectin-1 and other receptors on immune cells. Unsaturated fatty acids in the mushroom were the compounds Chen’s group linked to aromatase inhibition.
Ergothioneine is an antioxidant amino acid the body takes up through a dedicated transporter.
Published Agaricus Bisporus research
Research covers immune effects of mushroom beta-glucans and aromatase inhibition by button mushroom extracts, reported by Chen and colleagues at City of Hope in 2006.
It’s also studied as a vitamin D source when exposed to UV light.

Using Agaricus Bisporus in the lab
Plant extracts contain many compounds, so a common design compares the whole extract with its main isolated compound to see which effects come from which.
Write the extract ratio or standardization into your methods. It’s the detail reviewers ask about first.
Keep a retained sample of the batch you used. If you need to check a result later, you’ll have the same material to test.
Agaricus Bisporus at a glance
- Compound: Agaricus Bisporus
- Also known as: button mushroom
- Class: button mushroom extract (polysaccharides)
- Options: 3 sizes and forms
- Purity: 99% or higher, verified by first- and third-party testing
- Use: laboratory research only
Quality and testing
We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.
The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.
Storage and shelf life
Store capsules, tablets and powder in a cool, dry place out of direct light, with the lid closed tight. Write the date you opened or mixed it on the label, so anyone else in the lab knows how old it is.
Working with it safely
Handle it the way you’d handle any research chemical: gloves, eye protection and a clean bench. Don’t eat or drink where you work with it.
Keep it out of reach of anyone who isn’t trained, and dispose of used syringes, vials and wipes according to your lab’s waste rules.
