Description

EGCG is a green tea catechin, sold by Pure Rawz for laboratory research. It’s tested to 99% purity or higher and sold strictly for lab research.

What is EGCG?

EGCG, epigallocatechin gallate, is the main catechin in green tea. Our extract is standardized to 98% polyphenols.

It makes up roughly half of the catechins in green tea leaves.

Mechanism of action

EGCG inhibits catechol-O-methyltransferase, which slows noradrenaline breakdown and adds to fat burning. It also binds many proteins and affects signaling such as EGFR and NF-kB in cell studies.

It’s a strong antioxidant in the test tube, though less so after absorption.

What studies say about EGCG

Research covers metabolism, weight, cancer biology and brain aging. A 2009 meta-analysis by Hursel and colleagues reported a small effect of green tea catechins on weight loss.

High levels have been linked to liver injury, so concentrated extracts get more scrutiny.

The primary literature is on PubMed. Here’s a search to start from.

Study design notes

Botanical and mushroom research usually starts by checking the extract’s marker compounds, such as polysaccharides, alkaloids or flavonoids, then moves to cell culture or animal models of inflammation, immunity or metabolism.

Extracts vary by source and method, so labs keep to one batch through a study and record the standardization on the label.

Endpoints depend on the plant: immune markers and cytokines for mushroom beta-glucans, glucose and lipids for metabolic botanicals, or behavior tests for calming plants.

How we test each batch

We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.

The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.

How to store EGCG

Keep the container sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Label the container with the opening date. It saves guesswork later.

Handling notes

Treat it as a lab chemical. Gloves and safety glasses are the minimum, and a clean, uncluttered workspace cuts down on mix-ups.

Store prepared solutions apart from untouched stock, and record who mixed what and when.
