About DNSP-11
DNSP-11 is an 11-amino-acid peptide, PPEAPAEDRSL, taken from the pro-region of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF). It was characterized at the University of Kentucky.
It’s much smaller than GDNF itself, which makes it easier to deliver in research models.
How it acts in research models
DNSP-11 doesn’t seem to use the classic GDNF receptor GFRalpha1/RET. Its effects on dopamine neurons appear to run through a separate pathway that is still being worked out.
In models it raised dopamine release and protected neurons from toxins such as MPP+ and 6-OHDA.
What studies say about DNSP-11
Bradley and colleagues reported in 2010 that DNSP-11 protected dopamine neurons and improved dopamine function in rat and primate Parkinson’s disease models.
Data are still limited to preclinical work.
