What is Colivelin?

Colivelin is a 26-amino-acid hybrid peptide made by joining activity-dependent neurotrophic factor (ADNF) to a potent humanin analog, AGA-(C8R)HNG17. It was designed at Keio University in Tokyo.

It’s one of the most potent humanin-family peptides tested in cell culture.

How it acts in research models

The humanin part activates a STAT3-dependent survival pathway through a receptor complex that includes gp130. The ADNF part acts through a separate route involving calcium/calmodulin kinase IV.

Combining the two gives protection through both pathways at once, which is the idea behind the hybrid.

Colivelin research

Chiba and colleagues reported in the Journal of Neuroscience (2005) that colivelin protected neurons from Alzheimer’s-related toxicity at femtomolar levels and reduced memory loss in mouse models.

Later rodent studies looked at stroke and inflammatory injury.
