Description

Our 9-Me-BC is a beta-carboline neurotrophic compound, supplied as a liquid and a powder. It’s tested to 99% purity or higher and sold strictly for lab research.

About 9-Me-BC

9-Me-BC is 9-methyl-beta-carboline, a synthetic beta-carboline. Beta-carbolines are found in some plants and in cooked foods, but this one is made for research.

It’s studied for its effects on dopamine neurons.

Mechanism of action

9-Me-BC inhibits monoamine oxidase A and B, raises tyrosine hydroxylase in dopamine neurons, and increases neurotrophic factors such as BDNF and GDNF.

It also seems to reduce inflammation in the brain.

9-Me-BC research

Hamann and colleagues reported in 2008 (Journal of Neurochemistry) that 9-Me-BC protected dopamine neurons in cell culture, raised neurotrophic factor levels and helped neurons regrow. Later rodent work looked at memory.

There are no human studies, and some researchers have raised concerns about light sensitivity with beta-carbolines.

9-Me-BC sizes and forms

There are 4 ways to buy it, from $28.60 to $114.39:

  • Liquid, 15ml/17mg per ml/250mg: $28.60
  • Liquid, 30ml/17mg per ml/500mg: $57.20
  • Powder, 500mg: $57.20
  • Powder, 1000mg: $114.39

The liquid is a ready-made solution. The concentration per mL is on the label, and a graduated dropper gives the most accurate measures.

The powder is the bulk form, for labs that weigh their own amounts. Use a milligram scale for accuracy.

Study design notes

Nootropic research usually uses memory and learning tests in rodents, such as maze tasks, object recognition or fear conditioning, along with markers like BDNF or receptor binding.

Behavioral tests are sensitive to handling and time of day, so labs keep both constant and score results blind. A vehicle group run on the same day is the most useful control.

Cognition studies mostly score behavior, such as maze learning or object recognition. Many also measure something in brain tissue afterwards, like BDNF or acetylcholine.

Measuring the liquid

At 17mg per mL, every 1mL holds 17mg and every 0.1mL holds 1.7mg. A graduated 1mL dropper or syringe makes those measures accurate.

Quality and testing

We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.

The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.

Storage and shelf life

Store capsules, tablets and powder in a cool, dry place out of direct light, with the lid closed tight. Keep the bottle capped, upright and out of direct sunlight at room temperature unless the label says otherwise.

Label the container with the opening date. It saves guesswork later.

Handling notes

Handle it the way you’d handle any research chemical: gloves, eye protection and a clean bench. Don’t eat or drink where you work with it.

Keep it out of reach of anyone who isn’t trained, and dispose of used syringes, vials and wipes according to your lab’s waste rules.

Supplies to have on hand

  • a graduated 1mL dropper or syringe for accurate volumes
  • a milligram scale, since powder has to be weighed
  • a suitable solvent if you’re making your own solution, such as DMSO or propylene glycol
