Description
Our Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic, supplied as tablets. Each batch is checked for 99%+ purity. It’s intended for research use only.
What is Hydrochlorothiazide?
Hydrochlorothiazide, or HCTZ, is a thiazide diuretic introduced in 1959. It’s one of the most prescribed blood pressure drugs in the world.
It’s a small sulfonamide-based molecule.
How it acts in research models
HCTZ blocks the sodium-chloride cotransporter in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney. More sodium and water leave in the urine, and blood volume and pressure fall.
It reduces calcium loss in urine, the opposite of loop diuretics.
Hydrochlorothiazide research
Trials such as ALLHAT showed thiazide-type diuretics lowered cardiovascular events as well as newer drugs. HCTZ is the standard diuretic in many combination pills.
Research also covers its effects on calcium and on kidney stone risk.
The primary literature is on PubMed. Here’s a search to start from.
Options and prices
This listing is a bottle of 30 tablets, 25mg each, for $29.99.
Each tablet holds the same measured amount, which the size option spells out.
How labs use it
Researchers use reference compounds to anchor a study: if the known drug gives the expected result, the model is behaving. Then the new compound can be compared against it.
Use the published pharmacology as your starting point and record the exact form, such as the salt or the solution strength.
Endpoints follow the drug’s known pharmacology: blood pressure and heart rate for cardiovascular compounds, receptor binding or enzyme activity for assay work, or the specific tissue response the drug is known for.

How we test each batch
We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.
The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.
How to store Hydrochlorothiazide
Keep the container sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Label the container with the opening date. It saves guesswork later.
Working with it safely
Handle it the way you’d handle any research chemical: gloves, eye protection and a clean bench. Don’t eat or drink where you work with it.
Keep it out of reach of anyone who isn’t trained, and dispose of used syringes, vials and wipes according to your lab’s waste rules.
What you’ll need
- nothing extra for capsules or tablets, as each unit is pre-measured
- a dry, sealed container if you split a bottle between projects
