Description
Our Coluracetam is a racetam, supplied as tablets, a liquid and a powder. It’s tested to 99% purity or higher and sold strictly for lab research.
What is Coluracetam?
Coluracetam (MKC-231) is a racetam developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma in Japan. It’s thought to boost high-affinity choline uptake, the step that limits how fast neurons make acetylcholine.
It was later licensed to BrainCells Inc. for depression.
Mechanism of action
Coluracetam raises high-affinity choline uptake, the rate-limiting step for making acetylcholine. In rats, that restored acetylcholine levels after a toxin that damages choline uptake.
It’s also been studied for retinal and optic nerve protection.
Coluracetam research
Takashina and colleagues reported in 2008 that it improved memory in rats after cholinergic damage.
A phase 2 trial in major depression with anxiety was run, but full results weren’t published.

Coluracetam sizes and forms
It comes in 4 options. Pick one from the dropdown above the cart button:
- Tablets, 30mg per tablet/27ct/810mg: $50.81
- Tablets, 30mg per tablet/54ct/1620mg: $97.81
- Liquid, 30ml/53mg per ml/1600mg: $92.36
- Powder, 1g: $47.52
Tablets are pressed with a fixed amount per tablet, shown in the size option along with the count.
The liquid is a ready-made solution. The concentration per mL is on the label, and a graduated dropper gives the most accurate measures.
The powder is the bulk form, for labs that weigh their own amounts. Use a milligram scale for accuracy.
How labs use it
Nootropic research usually uses memory and learning tests in rodents, such as maze tasks, object recognition or fear conditioning, along with markers like BDNF or receptor binding.
Behavioral tests are sensitive to handling and time of day, so labs keep both constant and score results blind. A vehicle group run on the same day is the most useful control.
Test a range of amounts if you can. Many cognition compounds have an inverted-U response, where too much works worse than a moderate amount.
Measuring the liquid
At 53mg per mL, every 1mL holds 53mg and every 0.1mL holds 5.3mg. A graduated 1mL dropper or syringe makes those measures accurate.
Coluracetam specifications
- Compound: Coluracetam
- Also known as: MKC-231
- Class: racetam
- Forms: tablets, liquid and powder
- Options: 4 sizes and forms
- Purity: 99% or higher, verified by first- and third-party testing
- Use: laboratory research only
Purity and batch testing
We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.
The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.
How to store Coluracetam
Keep the container sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Store liquids at room temperature with the cap screwed on, away from heat and light.
Write the date you opened or mixed it on the label, so anyone else in the lab knows how old it is.
Working with it safely
Wear gloves and eye protection when you open or measure it, and work on a clean surface.
Label everything you prepare, keep it away from food areas, and follow your lab’s rules for disposing of sharps and chemical waste.
Supplies to have on hand
- a graduated 1mL dropper or syringe for accurate volumes
- a milligram scale, since powder has to be weighed
- a suitable solvent if you’re making your own solution, such as DMSO or propylene glycol
