Description
Our Sarcosine is a GlyT1 inhibitor, supplied as a powder. Every batch is tested for 99% purity or better, and it’s sold for laboratory research only.
What is Sarcosine?
Sarcosine (N-methylglycine) is a natural amino acid derivative. It blocks the glycine transporter GlyT1 and acts at the NMDA receptor glycine site.
It’s studied in schizophrenia.
How it acts in research models
Sarcosine blocks GlyT1, the transporter that clears glycine from synapses. More glycine stays at the NMDA receptor’s glycine site, strengthening NMDA signaling.
That’s why it’s studied in schizophrenia, where low NMDA activity is a leading theory.
Sarcosine research
Lane and colleagues reported in 2008 that sarcosine added to antipsychotics improved symptoms.
Larger trials have been mixed.
It’s also an intermediate in the breakdown of choline to glycine.

Sarcosine sizes and forms
This listing is 50g of powder for $13.10.
Powder suits labs that want to make their own solutions or capsules. Weigh it on a milligram scale.
How labs use it
Nootropic research usually uses memory and learning tests in rodents, such as maze tasks, object recognition or fear conditioning, along with markers like BDNF or receptor binding.
Behavioral tests are sensitive to handling and time of day, so labs keep both constant and score results blind. A vehicle group run on the same day is the most useful control.
Test a range of amounts if you can. Many cognition compounds have an inverted-U response, where too much works worse than a moderate amount.
Sarcosine at a glance
- Compound: Sarcosine
- Class: GlyT1 inhibitor

- Size: 50g
- Purity: 99% or higher, verified by first- and third-party testing
- Use: laboratory research only
How we test each batch
Every batch is tested before it goes on sale. Identity is checked by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC, with a target of 99% or higher.
Each container is labeled with the product, the amount and the batch number. Email us that number and we’ll send the certificate of analysis for your batch.
Keeping it fresh
Keep the container sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Note the batch number and the date you opened it in your lab records.
Working with it safely
Treat it as a lab chemical. Gloves and safety glasses are the minimum, and a clean, uncluttered workspace cuts down on mix-ups.
Store prepared solutions apart from untouched stock, and record who mixed what and when.
What you’ll need
- a milligram scale, since powder has to be weighed
- a suitable solvent if you’re making your own solution, such as DMSO or propylene glycol
