Description

Pure Rawz Orexin A is a hypothalamic neuropeptide (hypocretin-1). Every batch is tested for 99% purity or better, and it’s sold for laboratory research only.

Orexin A explained

Orexin A, also called hypocretin-1, is a 33-amino-acid neuropeptide with two disulfide bridges. It’s made by a small group of neurons in the lateral hypothalamus.

It was discovered in 1998 by two groups at once, Sakurai’s team in Texas and de Lecea’s in California.

Mechanism of action

Orexin A binds both orexin receptors, OX1R and OX2R, with similar strength. These receptors keep wake-promoting brain systems active and also feed into appetite and reward circuits.

Its disulfide bonds make it more stable than orexin B.

What studies say about Orexin A

Loss of orexin neurons causes narcolepsy with cataplexy, which Nishino and colleagues showed in human patients in 2000. That finding made the orexin system a major target in sleep research.

Drugs that block orexin receptors, such as suvorexant, are now approved for insomnia.

Using Orexin A in the lab

Nootropic research usually uses memory and learning tests in rodents, such as maze tasks, object recognition or fear conditioning, along with markers like BDNF or receptor binding.

Behavioral tests are sensitive to handling and time of day, so labs keep both constant and score results blind. A vehicle group run on the same day is the most useful control.

Cognition studies mostly score behavior, such as maze learning or object recognition. Many also measure something in brain tissue afterwards, like BDNF or acetylcholine.

How we test each batch

Every batch is tested before it goes on sale. Identity is checked by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC, with a target of 99% or higher.

Each container is labeled with the product, the amount and the batch number. Email us that number and we’ll send the certificate of analysis for your batch.

Keeping it fresh

Store capsules, tablets and powder in a cool, dry place out of direct light, with the lid closed tight. Note the batch number and the date you opened it in your lab records.

Working with it safely

Handle it the way you’d handle any research chemical: gloves, eye protection and a clean bench. Don’t eat or drink where you work with it.

Keep it out of reach of anyone who isn’t trained, and dispose of used syringes, vials and wipes according to your lab’s waste rules.
