Description
Our Levothyroxine is a thyroid hormone (prohormone), supplied as a liquid. Each batch is checked for 99%+ purity. It’s intended for research use only.
Levothyroxine explained
Levothyroxine is synthetic T4, thyroxine, the main hormone the thyroid gland makes. It’s one of the most prescribed drugs in the world, used for hypothyroidism under names like Synthroid.
T4 is mostly a prohormone. Enzymes in the liver, kidney, brain and other tissues remove one iodine atom to make T3, the active form.
How it acts in research models
T4 circulates bound to carrier proteins and enters cells through transporters such as MCT8. Inside, type 1 and type 2 deiodinases strip one iodine to make T3, while type 3 deiodinase makes inactive reverse T3.
That local conversion lets each tissue set its own thyroid signal. The T3 produced then acts on nuclear thyroid hormone receptors to switch on metabolic genes.
Published Levothyroxine research
T4 has a half-life of about seven days, so its levels in blood stay steady. That’s the main reason it, not T3, is the standard replacement hormone.
Research uses it to study the deiodinase enzymes that control how much T3 each tissue makes, and in models of thyroid deficiency and excess.

Choosing your option
This listing is a 30ml bottle of liquid for $34.99.
The liquid is a ready-made solution. The concentration per mL is on the label, and a graduated dropper gives the most accurate measures.
Study design notes
These are approved-drug reference compounds sold for research, such as receptor and enzyme studies, assay development and comparison against newer molecules. Their pharmacology is well documented, which makes them useful as positive controls.
Because their actions are well known, labs often use them to check that an assay or model is working before testing an unknown compound.
Use the approved product label or published pharmacology as your reference for expected effects, and note the salt form, since it changes the molecular weight.

Purity and batch testing
We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.
The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.
How to store Levothyroxine
Keep the bottle capped, upright and out of direct sunlight at room temperature unless the label says otherwise. Label the container with the opening date. It saves guesswork later.
Working with it safely
Wear gloves and eye protection when you open or measure it, and work on a clean surface.
Label everything you prepare, keep it away from food areas, and follow your lab’s rules for disposing of sharps and chemical waste.
