Description
Pure Rawz Kava extract is a Piper methysticum extract (kavalactones), available as tablets and a powder. It’s tested to 99% purity or higher and sold strictly for lab research.
Kava extract explained
Kava comes from the root of Piper methysticum, a plant from the South Pacific islands where it’s drunk as a ceremonial and social drink. Our extract is standardized to 70% kavalactones.
Kavalactones such as kavain and yangonin are the active compounds.
Mechanism of action
Kavalactones boost GABA-A receptor activity, block sodium and calcium channels, and inhibit reuptake of noradrenaline. The result is calm without much effect on thinking in the trials.
Different kavalactones have different strengths, so the 70% figure is the total.
What studies say about Kava extract
A Cochrane review (2003) found kava reduced anxiety more than placebo in short-term trials. Sarris and colleagues ran further trials in Australia.
Concerns about liver injury led to restrictions in some countries in the early 2000s, mostly linked to extracts made with solvents.

Study design notes
Plant extracts contain many compounds, so a common design compares the whole extract with its main isolated compound to see which effects come from which.
Write the extract ratio or standardization into your methods. It’s the detail reviewers ask about first.
Endpoints depend on the plant: immune markers and cytokines for mushroom beta-glucans, glucose and lipids for metabolic botanicals, or behavior tests for calming plants.

Quality and testing
Every batch is tested before it goes on sale. Identity is checked by mass spectrometry, and purity by HPLC, with a target of 99% or higher.
Each container is labeled with the product, the amount and the batch number. Email us that number and we’ll send the certificate of analysis for your batch.
How to store Kava extract
Keep the container sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Note the batch number and the date you opened it in your lab records.
Handling notes
Treat it as a lab chemical. Gloves and safety glasses are the minimum, and a clean, uncluttered workspace cuts down on mix-ups.
Store prepared solutions apart from untouched stock, and record who mixed what and when.
Before you start
- a milligram scale, since powder has to be weighed
- a suitable solvent if you’re making your own solution, such as DMSO or propylene glycol
