What is GW-0742?

GW-0742 (GW0742X) is a selective PPAR-delta agonist from GlaxoSmithKline, structurally close to GW501516. It’s not a SARM, though it’s often grouped with them.

It’s been used in animal studies of heart, lung and metabolic function and isn’t approved for human use.

How it acts in research models

GW-0742 activates PPAR-delta, a nuclear receptor that switches on genes for fat burning and mitochondrial growth in muscle.

It’s structurally and functionally close to GW501516.

GW-0742 research

Harrington and colleagues reported in 2010 that GW0742 limited right heart hypertrophy in rats with hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension.

Other rodent work has looked at its effects on lipid levels and muscle fiber type.

Using GW-0742 in the lab

Metabolic research usually tracks body weight, fat mass, glucose and insulin, and sometimes endurance or oxygen use in treadmill tests. Diet-induced obesity models are the most common setup.
