What is Flammulina Velutipes?
Flammulina velutipes is the enoki mushroom, the long thin white mushroom common in Asian cooking. Ours is a 30% polysaccharide extract.
It’s also called velvet shank in its wild form.
Mechanism of action
FIP-fve and the polysaccharides act on immune cells, shifting cytokine output. Its flammulin protein inhibited tumor growth in older lab studies.
It’s a lightly studied extract compared with reishi or maitake.
What studies say about Flammulina Velutipes
Research covers its polysaccharides and fungal immunomodulatory proteins such as FIP-fve, which affected immune responses in mouse studies. Japanese epidemiology linked enoki growers to lower cancer rates, though that isn’t proof of cause.
Human trials are few.
