What is CDP Choline?
Citicoline (CDP-choline) is an intermediate in making phosphatidylcholine for cell membranes. It splits into choline and cytidine, which turns into uridine.
Cognizin is a branded form we also sell.
Mechanism of action
Citicoline splits into cytidine and choline, which are reassembled in the brain into phosphatidylcholine, a main part of nerve cell membranes. The choline can also go to acetylcholine.
The cytidine is converted to uridine, which supports membrane building as well.
CDP Choline research
Secades has reviewed its use in stroke and cognitive decline. The ICTUS trial in The Lancet (2012) found no benefit after stroke.
Smaller studies look at memory in older adults.

Using CDP Choline in the lab
Cognition studies often test a compound in a deficit model, for example after sleep loss, stress or a drug that impairs memory, because effects are easier to see there than in healthy animals.
Start with the smallest size to confirm solubility and handling, then scale up once the protocol is set.
Test a range of amounts if you can. Many cognition compounds have an inverted-U response, where too much works worse than a moderate amount.
