Description

Myostatin propeptide is a myostatin-binding propeptide, sold by Pure Rawz for laboratory research. Each batch is checked for 99%+ purity. It’s intended for research use only.

What is Myostatin propeptide?

Myostatin propeptide is the N-terminal prodomain that the cell cuts off when it makes myostatin (GDF-8). After cleavage it stays wrapped around the active myostatin dimer and keeps it inactive.

Because of that, the free propeptide is used in the lab as a myostatin inhibitor.

How it works

Myostatin is a TGF-beta family member that limits muscle growth by signaling through ActRIIB receptors and SMAD2/3. The propeptide binds the mature myostatin dimer and blocks it from reaching those receptors.

That makes it a way to study the myostatin pathway without touching the gene.

What studies say about Myostatin propeptide

Lee and McPherron showed in 2001 (PNAS) that mice engineered to make extra propeptide had much larger muscles, close to the effect of deleting myostatin.

Later work with injected or gene-delivered propeptide in rodent muscle-wasting models reported more muscle mass, though results varied with the delivery method.

Study design notes

GH-axis studies often look at IGF-1 as the steadier marker, since a single GH reading can miss a pulse. Cortisol and prolactin are worth measuring too, because some secretagogues raise them.

Run each peptide on its own before you test combinations, so you know what each one contributes.

Freeze-dried peptides are easy to store, so ordering enough for a full study at once keeps every group on the same batch.

Myostatin propeptide specifications

  • Compound: Myostatin Propeptide
  • Also known as: GDF-8 propeptide, myostatin prodomain
  • Class: myostatin-binding propeptide
  • Size: 1mg
  • Purity: 99% or higher, verified by first- and third-party testing
  • Use: laboratory research only

How we test each batch

We test each batch for identity and purity before it ships, using HPLC and mass spectrometry, with independent third-party checks on top of our own.

The batch number on the label matches the certificate of analysis. If your lab keeps paperwork on file, ask us for it and we’ll email it over.

Keeping it fresh

Store capsules, tablets and powder in a cool, dry place out of direct light, with the lid closed tight. Note the batch number and the date you opened it in your lab records.

Safe handling

Treat it as a lab chemical. Gloves and safety glasses are the minimum, and a clean, uncluttered workspace cuts down on mix-ups.

Store prepared solutions apart from untouched stock, and record who mixed what and when.

Other compounds to look at

  • Ghrelin Acetate: Ghrelin is a 28-amino-acid hormone made mostly in the stomach.
  • Sermorelin: Sermorelin is GHRH(1-29), the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone releasing hormone.
  • IGF-1 LR3: IGF-1 LR3 is an 83-amino-acid analog of IGF-1 with an arginine swap at position 3 and a 13-amino-acid extension.
  • Follistatin: Follistatin is a glycoprotein that binds and blocks activin and myostatin.
  • HGH 191AA: HGH 191AA is somatropin, the 191-amino-acid form of human growth hormone, made by recombinant DNA technology.

Similar compounds compared

IGF-1 LR3: IGF-1 LR3 is an 83-amino-acid analog of IGF-1 with an arginine swap at position 3 and a 13-amino-acid extension. Those changes stop it binding IGF binding proteins, so it stays active much longer.

IGF-1 DES: IGF-1 DES is insulin-like growth factor 1 missing its first three amino acids, Gly-Pro-Glu. That leaves a 67-amino-acid protein of about 7.4kDa that still binds the IGF-1 receptor.
