About 1-Andro

1-Andro is 3-beta-hydroxy-5-alpha-androst-1-en-17-one, also called 1-DHEA. In the body it converts to 1-testosterone, a potent androgen.

It doesn’t convert to estrogen. It’s on the WADA prohibited list.

How it works

1-Andro is converted by 3-beta-HSD and 17-beta-HSD enzymes into 1-testosterone, which binds the androgen receptor strongly.

The double bond at the 1-position stops aromatase from acting on it.

What studies say about 1-Andro

Granados and colleagues reported in 2014 that 1-Andro increased strength and muscle in resistance-trained men over four weeks, along with unfavorable changes in cholesterol.

Anti-doping studies have mapped its metabolites.

Study design notes

Research in this area usually measures lean mass, strength and hormone markers, plus liver enzymes and lipids. Prohormones convert to active steroids in the body, so measuring the metabolites tells you more than measuring the parent compound.
